I Appreciate Your Membership! I appreciate the opportunity to serve as the president of MCA, and I want to take a moment to thank my fellow board members for their wise counsel and their selfless service to MCA. I am proud to be leading our state's largest commodity organization as we work hard to advance the well being of our great Maryland cattle industry. Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your membership and interest in our state cattlemen’s association. Finally, let me draw your attention to a few important items. WOULD YOU CONSIDER A GIFT TO MCA? The Maryland Cattlemen’s Association is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization which means that contributions and gifts to our association beyond the membership dues, are fully tax deductible. MCA has undergone a number of changes over the past year, like opening a new office, which has resulted in added operating costs and expenses. Yet, we have not increased our base dues. I truly believe that we are now better positioned than ever to be the leading and unified voice for our industry in Maryland and around the region. Would you consider making a contribution to the work of your state association? We will immediately provide you with a gift receipt and your support will be broadly recognized. Checks should be payable to MCA and mailed to P.O. Box 259 in Sykesville, 21784. Thanks in advance for considering this need. HOW ABOUT A NEW HAT? We have a good supply of both MCA Logo hats as well as some pretty nice looking "BEEF It's What for Dinner" hats. You can view the selection under the "Order a Hat" link where all the details are available. 2008 CONVENTION WILL BE OUR 21st! I hope you will plan to attend the 21st annual cattle industry convention scheduled for March 7th and 8th, 2008. I promise you a very enjoyable and educational weekend. The Youth Skill-A-Thon will continue and we anticipate a strong youth presence at the event. In 2007, over 125 youth from around the state participated and we are grateful for the strong support from our sponsors and partners for this great event. Congratulations to the Montgomery County Senior team for their impressive finish! Also, for 2008 we are changing the annual meeting schedule to better meet the needs of our members. We will host a breakfast meeting on Saturday morning March 8th with the time devoted solely to the annual meeting. Please plan to attend and participate. And, if you are interested in running for a seat on our board of directors in 2008, please contact Scott. I appreciate the opportunity to serve as president of our great association. I thank you for your support and I wish each of you a prosperous and profitable 2008. Bill Poffenberger
